Bangladesh has not performed well in the abroad conditions in the past. The fans were very optimistic about the turnarounds. However, once a time they have frustrated the spectators with some disappointing appearances.  We have tried to point out some reasons behind the downfall.

Low standard fielding :

Nowadays fielding is a basic element of the game of cricket, top teams give lots of priority in this department. When you are up against a top-quality fielding side like New Zealand it is even more inevitable to make some good grounds. However, Bangladesh looked really flat as a unit in the field. They dropped several catches in the crucial time of the match, which eventually cost them the match. Not only fielding but also their body language in the field was questionable as well. The Bowling unit did well in the series in patches, but it is the fielding department that could not hold their nerves to support them in the right manner.

Absence of Shakib

Without any doubt, Shakib Al Hasan is the biggest name of Bangladesh cricket. Certainly, his presence would have boosted the spirit of the team. Bangladesh lacked a proper all-rounder in its outfit. Shakib’s all-around presence should have helped the team in crucial times.  

Ordinary batting : 

There was not any kind of great swing or bounce on offer in the pitches to be dealt with. But they looked clueless as a batting group in the middle. At times they perished by some over-ambitious shot. 

Moreover, the confidence level of the batsmen was not up to the mark. They looked rusty with their approach most of the time in the series. There is nothing substantial team effort rather than one odd individual excellence. This series has raised some serious questions about the ability of this batting order. 

Lack of Intent:

Players like Soumya Sarker,  Liton das have played a fair amount of cricket under their belt in national colors. However, they still looked confused about their role on the side. In addition, lack of self-belief is also clearly evident in their game. They looked to play the series without a great deal of intent, which did not help the Bangladesh team. 

Scarcity of preparation

Every touring team is aware of what they will face in conditions like New Zealand. While New Zealand bowlers are very skillful in their conditions, they use the air very well to generate maximum swing. Extra bounce has also been a matter of headache for the touring batsmen in this part of the world. So it is very important to become well prepared as a team before the series. While Bangladesh has visited New Zealand on more than one occasion. So with all the past experience, the results are very disappointing for the Bangladesh cricket team.

Bangladesh have played exactly 32 games in New Zealand across three formats, sadly they have not been able to win a single game yet. If they did not address their loof holes they will continue to struggle in the challenging conditions of New Zealand.
